15 Years/Tag Sale/Sample Spree

Quilter's Dream just passed the 15 year mark and to celebrate we have invited our club members to have a tag sale - kind of like a yard sale, only it's inside the store and it's all quilty stuff.  There are some really good buys here and some fabrics you haven't seen in a while.  We will run the tag sale for the next two weeks.

We are also having a sample spree - this gives our teachers and employees the opportunity to sell some of our numerous class samples and you the opportunity to get a good deal on a quilt top or quilt made by your favorite teacher.  They are beautiful and we want good homes for all of them.

Wedding Day Visit

I think this is the first time this has ever happened and I thought it was blog worthy . . .

One of our customers, Kathi Varner, got married today.  She brought her family and BFF (and new husband) to the quilt shop to see her Hidden Treasures quilt entry after the wedding so I had to take their picture.  Hubby was outside at the time of the photo  so he's not in it but that's her quilt behind the group.

CONGRATULATIONS!

It was really hard to choose because the entries are so good but here are the Hidden Treasures winners:
The WOW Award goes to Sally Thompson for her awesome inspiration, workmanship and concept.
The dresses are reproduced from her Mom's fashion design drawings from the 1940's
The Girlie Girl Award goes to Valerie Lamb for her Pretty in Pink - great workmanship
The Whimsy Award goes to Carol Powell for her Dinosaurs - too cute!
The Contemporary Design Award goes to Crisann Becker for her EKG - no cityscape - no stock market review - oh well, it's great.

We also gave four Attagirl Awards to:
Maria Noell
Ginger Walter
Sue Hoffmann
Gaylene Morlock

Great job everyone and thanks!

Hidden Treasures Quilt Challenge

We have our Hidden Treasures Challenge Quilts on display right now.  We had 33 entries and they are fabulous.  If you don't know about our challenge, here's how it works.
  • During June and July customers were invited to purchase a brown paper bag with 1 yard of Hidden Treasures fabric in it.
  • Each participant then had until September 29 to make something beautiful.  They could add any fabric they wanted to but we asked that they use 1/2 yard of the HT fabric.
  • The Quilter's Dream staff is judging them based on creativity, workmanship, overall appeal, etc.  The judging is very difficult as all of the projects are so good.
I'm posting some photos but you really need to see them in person to appreciate them.  Prizes will be awarded next week.  I've also posted a photo that shows the different Hidden Treasures fabric.  Thank you to everyone who participated.

North Texas Quilt Shop Hop

I'm working as fast as I can to get our quilt ready for the North Texas Quilt Shop Hop.  There are 14 designer block patterns and my own setting.  If you have never attended one of our shop hops, here's how it works:  pick up a passport at any of the participating shops.  Have it stamped at each shop you visit and receive a designer block pattern, a shop block pattern and a free fat quarter at each shop.  Go to all 14 of the participating shops and turn in your passport at the last shop you visit.  You will then be eligible for the grand prize drawing in which 14 lucky hoppers will each receive a basket of goodies worth $300.  Each store will also hold daily door prize drawings.

You can download a map at www.northtexasquiltshophop.com or give us a call and reserve a spot on our bus.  We will leave Quilter's Dream at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, September 7, to visit Blue Ribbon Quilt Shop in Wylie, Quilt Among Friends in Arlington, Quilts 'n More in Midlothian, Common Threads in Waxahachie, Country Stitches in Burleson and Houston Street Mercantile in Granbury, and back to Quilter's Dream.  On Saturday, September 8, we will go to Lone Star House of Quilts in Arlington, Cabbage Rose in Ft. Worth, Peachtree Quilts in Weatherford, Quazy Quilts in Weatherford, Old Town Quilts in Keller, Pass Time Fabrics in Gainesville and Kaleidoscope Quilts in Whitesboro.  The cost is $65 per day which includes your lunch as well as snacks and drinks on the bus.  You can call Quilter's Dream at 817-481-7105 or send me an email at quiltersdream@verizon.net.

It should be fun!

12 Days of Christmas in July

Our 12 Days of Christmas in July starts Monday, July 16.  We are doing things a bit different this year so hopefully I can explain it here.

First - We are having free demos every day and at least one "Make and Take" project.  Each demo will last 5 to 15 minutes.  For the make and take projects, we will have machines set up for you to use and kits available for around $5.  This will give you the opportunity to try the technique to see if you like it and reinforce what you saw in the demo.

Second - We will have a "Daily Special" that will be 12% off (since it's 12 Days of Christmas) a certain category each day.  The sale is good storewide, not just Christmas merchandise.

Third - Every purchase of $100 or more earns you a $10 gift certificate.

Fourth - Register for our door prize - I haven't quite nailed that one down but you know it will be good.

So here's a schedule to get you started:
Monday, July 16, 12% off all fabric on the bolt:
Paper Piecing demo and make and take w/Libby - 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
My favorite tools demo with Barb - noon and 3 p.m.
Quilt math with Beverly - 2 p.m.

Tuesday, July 17, 12% off all fat quarters:
Using panels demo with Nancy - 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Embroidery demo and make and take w/Suzie - 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
T-shirt quilts demo with Beverly - noon and 3 p.m.

Wednesday, July 18, 12% off all patterns:
Triangle paper demo and make and take w/Beverly - 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Mitered borders demo with Beverly - 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Layering with fusible batting w/Beverly - noon and 3 p.m.

Thursday, July 19, 12% off all notions:

Using panels demo with Nancy - 2 p.m.

Saturday, July 21, 12% off all panels:
Give and take applique demo with Barb - 11 a.m.

Encore presentations:

Christmas in July

In an effort to communicate with you better, I decided it was time for me to blog.  We seem to go from one event to the next at Quilter's Dream and they are all so great, I really want you to know what's going on.  We are in the middle of our block-of-the month weekend which is always fun and busy and we get to see a lot of you.

The staff and I have been brainstorming and making lots of plans for our "12 Days of Christmas in July" which starts July 16 and runs through July 28.  We are planning special demos each day as well as some "make and take" projects.  There will be a "daily special" each day with different items on sale and door prize drawings.  We've still got a week to go, so who knows what else we will cook up.

I will be posting a schedule of demos and daily specials so be sure to check back.  See you soon.
